2009 Pre-Draft Ceremonies

"Welcome to another exciting season of EphrataFantasyStars Fantasy Football! It’s great to see the EFS faithful as well as those that are attending their first EFS Offline Draft!  For those of you who are unaware, the 2009 season marks the 5th Anniversary for EphrataFantasyStars Fantasy Football.  I, as well as any of the other 5 original EFS managers, could tell you that this league has seen its fair share of change.  From the Keeper League Rule that was implemented last year (reminder:  this rule will again be put in effect this year as well as foreseeable future EFS Fantasy Football Drafts), the new scoring settings (please, check them if you haven’t done so already) and roster changes (1 IDP instead of 3 IDPs), and the number of EFS managers (10 to 12).

Before I go any further, I would like to reiterate the Keeper League Rules, as it has been brought to my attention numerous times that there has been some confusion over them.  You are allowed to keep one (1) player from your team’s final roster that was drafted after the first three (3) rounds of the previous year’s draft.  In order for you to keep your player from last year, you must draft him within the first three (3) rounds of this year’s draft.  If you wish to forfeit your right to a Keeper, or you are new to the league and don’t have the option to retain a Keeper, you will draft in your slotted position as if it were a regular draft selection.

Anatole France once said “All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.”  The old scoring ensured a fun and entertaining fantasy football season, but we must say goodbye to it now as we welcome a newer, more sophisticated style of play this year.  The hard part is not to learn the new ways of the league, but to unlearn how we used to do things.  I am welcoming this new change, but would also like to remind everyone how frustrating it may be to adapt to a new way of doing things.  Fantasy football itself can be frustrating, but let’s not forget its main purpose:  to have competitive fun!  As you can see from the draft decorations, and all other accommodations, your interest in having fun is our number one priority at EFS.  I am left with little doubt that this year will be the most exciting season of EphrataFantasyStars Fantasy Football yet because of our appreciation of the past, openness to change, and lovingness of competition!  So, let’s make this a fun season, fellas!"

"First and foremost I would like to welcome all of you to the kick-off of what guaranties to be another thrilling year of EphrataFantasyStars fantasy football.  A lot goes on behind the scenes here at EFS, whether it’s the creation and (how-ever-rare-it-may-be) maintenance of the website or digging deep and getting post game interviews from star EFS players such as Randy Moss, so I’d like to take this time to thank some people.  Morgan, for writing an exquisite pre season evaluation, Tyler for helping write the meet the managers section, Fritzy for single handedly saving the site, Reimel for creating the forum and although he couldn’t be here Eric “Robby” Beamesderfer for persistently writing a column last year.   Speaking of new faces, I’d like to welcome back Kurt Sensenig and for the first time at an official EFS event Curt Kolp.  Sense we appreciate you coming back and being responsible while acknowledging past mistakes!  We (Tyler and I) are also grateful for the opportunity to spread the EFS name through the expansion through EFL and have consequently extended our hand to Curt Kolp….Curt, glad you could make it and I hope you’re addition to the league is better than that to the Dodgers….I digress, without further a due, I have prepared an emotional video looking back at the past 5 years.  Good luck and enjoy!"
